Who Microsoft 365 E5 is for
Microsoft 365 E5 is Microsoft’s enterprise suite for organisations that need advanced security and compliance: everything in E3 plus Defender XDR, Microsoft Entra ID Plan 2, advanced Purview compliance, Teams Phone and Power BI Pro, with no user limit. In Kenya we supply E5 on an annual commitment, priced in KES and invoiced in KES or USD, and we switch its tools on with you so you get the value you pay for.
E5 is for organisations where a breach or a compliance failure would be costly. Think banks, SACCOs, insurers, hospitals, law firms and government-facing bodies in Kenya that hold financial, health or personal data, face audits, or need to investigate incidents and legal requests quickly.
It includes everything in Microsoft 365 E3, then adds advanced security, compliance, calling and analytics.
What E5 adds
- Microsoft Defender XDR protection. Defender for Endpoint Plan 2, Defender for Office 365 Plan 2, Defender for Identity and Defender for Cloud Apps, so you can detect and respond to attacks across devices, email, identities and cloud apps.
- Microsoft Entra ID Plan 2. The higher tier of identity and access management, a step up from Plan 1 in E3.
- Microsoft Purview for compliance. Information Protection Plan 2, Insider Risk Management, Communication Compliance, Audit Premium and eDiscovery Premium.
- Teams Phone and Audio Conferencing in the version with Teams.
- Power BI Pro for reports and dashboards shared across the organisation.
- Windows 11 Enterprise E5 and Intune Plan 1 plus Intune Suite capabilities such as Remote Help, Endpoint Privilege Management and Cloud PKI.
- Security Copilot with default capacity.

How E5 compares

Can I get a Microsoft 365 E5 licence for free?
No, Microsoft’s published plans include no free Microsoft 365 E5 licence for businesses, but eligible non-profits can buy it at Microsoft’s discounted non-profit price.

Will Microsoft 365 E5 make us compliant with the Data Protection Act 2019?
No licence alone makes you compliant, but E5 gives you strong technical controls such as data classification, data loss prevention, insider risk detection, detailed audit and eDiscovery.

What is the difference between Office 365 E5 and Microsoft 365 E5?
Office 365 E5 covers productivity apps with core security, compliance and analytics, while Microsoft 365 E5 also includes Windows 11 Enterprise E5, Intune, Microsoft Entra ID Plan 2 and Defender for Endpoint Plan 2 to manage and protect devices and identities.

Does Microsoft 365 E5 include a phone system for our office?
Yes, E5 with Teams includes Teams Phone and Audio Conferencing, but calling ordinary landline and mobile numbers needs a connection to the public phone network.
That connection comes through Operator Connect or Direct Routing. Microsoft’s Calling Plan bundles are priced for the United States and do not apply to Kenya. Teams Phone in Kenya.
